What Are The Different Dior Sauvage Colognes?

    Hisdern Yang January 05, 2023

The Dior Sauvage colognes range is probably one of the most loved men's fragrance sets of all time. Since its release back in 2015, the Sauvage range has made waves in the fragrance industry and become one of Dior's best-selling colognes.

The Sauvage range currently consists of:

    • Dior Sauvage EDT
    • Dior Sauvage EDP
    • Dior Sauvage Parfum
    • Dior Sauvage Elixer
    Dior Sauvage EDT
      Dior Sauvage EDT

Sauvage's EDT version was first released in 2015 - and boy, did it leave its mark on the designer fragrance world.

Formulated by Dior's in-house perfumer Francois Demachy, EDT is a beautifully crafted fragrance that has quickly become one of the world's most popular colognes.EDT opens with bright, citrusy bergamot and then gradually dries into a warm, woody base note.

It's a fresh and versatile scent that's perfect for year-round use - whether you're heading to the office or out on a date night.

The wonderful thing about this fragrance is its ability to catch the eye. Especially after its release, a man walking down the street may have multiple women stopping to ask about his scent.

Today, it is a well known scent and is arguably overused by men who are trying to get compliments on its scent. As such, it is safe to say that it has run its course and should take its place in the backstage of the perfume giants.

      Dior Sauvage EDP

The EDP version of Dior Sauvage was released in 2018, three years after EDT. The formula is more intense than EDT, and as a result, it smells slightly different. while EDT opens with the citrusy notes of bergamot, EDP takes things in a more spicy direction, with anise and vanilla emerging. This makes for a slightly sweeter, more complex scent that still dries out into classic woody undertones.

If you're looking for an upgrade to EDT but don't want to stray too far from your comfort zone, then this is definitely the fragrance for you.

It is slightly more complex and mature than EDT, but still has the youthful vibrancy that made the original version so popular.

In addition, it performs much better than EDT due to its increased intensity. The scent has a retention time of about 6 hours, making it perfect for a day at work or a night out on the town.

        Dior Sauvage Parfum

After another successful year, Dior is releasing another iteration of Sauvage Perfume in 2019: Dior Sauvage Parfum.

Eau De Parfum typically contains about 15% essential oils, while Parfum is closer to 20-30%. This produces a stronger, longer lasting scent, which is perfect if you're looking for a scent that will last all day (or even late at night.) Dior Sauvage Parfum begins with the same bergamot citrus notes as EDT and EDP, but quickly dries out into a more smoky base.

If you're looking for a sophisticated, mature fragrance, then this is definitely for you. Perfect for a first date with someone special.

In my opinion, this perfume is better suited for nighttime use. While the previous edge can be said to be worn all day, the smoky element of this fragrance screams evening sophistication.

          Dior Sauvage Elixer
            Dior Sauvage Elixer

Designed as a more intense and long-lasting version of Dior Sauvage Parfum, this scent will not disappoint in terms of longevity, projection and diffusion.

But more importantly, this "Elixer" version of Sauvage is probably the most exciting fragrance they have ever smelled. Unlike other versions, Elixer is characterized by being much sweeter than its predecessor, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

You'll get hints of cinnamon and nutmeg at the beginning, followed by a fresh lavender middle note. In the base notes, licorice and amber combine to create a smooth, creamy base that is perfect for a romantic, intimate evening.

Frankly, Dior Sauvage Elixer is definitely my favorite new fragrance in the collection, and I'm sure it will be yours too. It's fun, sexy, and intoxicating - everything a seductive cologne should be.

            Eau Sauvage
              Eau Sauvage

Interesting fact: Dior Sauvage EDT is not the first Dior perfume to make waves in the cologne world. Back in 1966, Dior launched a very similar cologne with a very similar name: Dior Eau Sauvage.

So, was this an early version of Dior Sauvage as we know it today? Kind of - but not really.

Dior Eau Sauvage is a sharper, more traditional cologne with notes of bergamot, lemon, basil and rosemary. It's a soapy, fresh-smelling scent that's perfect for those warm summer days.

Although Dior Eau Sauvage is not as popular as its modern counterpart, I think it still deserves a mention as part of this article. After all, it did pave the way for Dior Sauvage EDT and all its successors.

Is this cologne for everyone? Probably not - it's very classic and has that "mid-20th century scent" that many older colognes seem to have. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it the next time you're in a department store!
