The Worst Grooming Mistakes A Man Can Make

Well Guys – Here’s the hard truth:

As you age, your body changes. If you don't exercise like crazy, your hair will thin, you'll gain weight, and your skin will start to show signs of aging.

So, what is a stylish man supposed to do? Sit back and accept his downfall?

Oh no! Gentlemen, it’s time to educate yourselves. To avoid aging like a cheap beer, you have to know what to avoid as you approach middle age and beyond.

In today’s post, I’m going to break down 5 common grooming mistakes men make…and how to fix them.

Let's start.>

Worst Grooming Mistake #1. Ignore Physical Changes

The Worst Grooming Mistakes A Man Can Make
A common mistake for a man approaching middle age is to delude himself into thinking that his grooming doesn't need updating.

When you turn 30, you no longer wear the ripped jeans, tattered T-shirts and sneakers you wore in college. Your style reflects your age. Your grooming habits should also reflect your age.

In your 20s, you can ignore minor physical aches and pains as your body repairs and heals quickly.

At age 40, uncontrolled minor aches and pains can lead to major illnesses if not addressed early.

I should know. After a year of neglecting my dentist, a simple toothache turned out to be gum disease that required immediate treatment. I'm not 22 anymore, even though I may feel that way inside. My 40-year-old body needs more attention than my younger self did, in fact.

It's easy to focus on wrinkles and thinning hair and forget that your age shows in your mouth. Yellow teeth can make you look older, affecting your appearance and self-confidence.

Dental health is closely related to overall health. Gum disease is more common as we age and is associated with an increased risk of heart disease. So, don’t skip the process of going to the dentist.

The hairstyles, moisturizing lotions, and shaving frequency that made you look good when you were younger tend not to diminish as you age. If you want to age gracefully (and you have no choice), you need to make some changes.

Accept that your body changes over time. And update your beauty routine and products to reflect your age.

Worst Grooming Mistake #2. No Daily Skin Care

The first thing people notice about you is your face.

If you don’t want your skin to look like a wrinkled bag in your 40s and 50s, start protecting your face today with the appropriate SPF level.

Start your skincare routine with a natural facial scrub for men to remove the top layer of dead skin cells from your face. Follow up with products containing retinoids and antioxidants to stimulate collagen turnover and increase cell turnover.

Not using a natural facial moisturizer may eliminate your chances of fighting fine lines and wrinkles. Hot showers can cause it to dry out and crack. Shaving will only add fuel to the fire and further irritate your skin. Apply a lightweight moisturizer with SPF to your face and neck every day to soothe and hydrate your skin.

Looking older than you are can affect your confidence and possibly your livelihood. Imagine getting fired at age 50 and constantly being ignored in interviews because you look much older than you are.

Regular use of natural men's skin care products, such as anti-wrinkle serums, can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face.

Worst Grooming Mistake #3. No Shaving Habit

You'll notice that I use the word "routine" a lot.

A disciplined grooming routine is the difference between success and mediocrity.

It takes years of research, study, and practice to master the right shaving technique for your skin. Learn about the different types of razors, aftershaves, creams and brushes to find one that suits your needs.

Your routine should resemble the following sequence of steps:

Get your face ready for shaving. Use a towel soaked in warm water and shave immediately after showering.
Use shaving oil, which acts as a lubricant and ensures a smoother shave.
Avoid aerosol cans and use a good quality shaving cream or natural shaving gel.
Use the brush to apply shaving cream in circular motions, then wipe upwards to lift the hairs up and away from your face.
Use a new blade. Avoid cheap, disposable plastic razors.
Use slow, gentle, steady strokes of the shaver with even, gentle pressure.
Use a slow, gentle, smooth razor to shave against the grain (the direction of hair growth). Then shave against the grain for a smoother result.
Rinse the hair between the blades after every one or two strokes.

Wash your face with cold water and pat dry with a towel.
Use a natural aftershave balm to hydrate your skin and reduce irritation.

After you've been shaving for a while, you can change your daily routine by making a few small changes. If you suddenly start experiencing razor burn, you can adjust your daily habits to change the results. You may need to change your shaver or use a different lotion.

Changing one factor in your shaving routine can get you closer to a perfect shave.

Pre-Shave Oil – (Secret Weapon!) Moisturize your skin before shaving and apply a thin film to the skin – allowing your razor to glide instead of dragging (less razor burn!).
Perfect Shave Gel – Gently softens your facial hair and lifts them away from your face for a closer, smoother shave.
After Shave Balm – Provides essential post-shave moisturization when your skin needs it. Soothes and cools your skin, minimizing razor burn.

Worst Grooming Mistake #4. No Haircut Arrangement

If you find out you need a haircut, it's already too late. By then others have noticed that your hair is out of control.

Don't wait until one morning when you suddenly realize you need a haircut. This could be the day of an important interview—and you might end up spending more money at an expensive salon out of desperation, or walk away with a haircut that just doesn't suit you.

Establish a regular haircut schedule.

At the end of your barbershop or salon appointment, set a time and date for your next haircut. Set a date and time each month when your hairdresser is expected to see you, creating an automated process that will save you time later.

If you can, prepay for your haircut so you can make it mandatory to show up for the appointment. Some salons will offer discounts for upfront payments or even give you free touch-ups between appointments.

Worst Grooming Mistake #5. Not Understanding The Entire Body System

The best beauty habits don't guarantee healthier skin, hair, and teeth.

Look at your appearance as a whole. There are other factors that play a big role in your health and attractiveness. An unbalanced diet, dehydration, lack of exercise and stress can accelerate the body's aging process.

In addition to regular grooming rituals, pay attention to the following important factors:

  • Diet: Food is the information you feed your DNA. Be aware of what you are consuming. It can affect your mood, energy levels and your appearance.
  • Water: Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. An active person needs more than 8 cups per day. Hydrated skin is softer, younger and more attractive.
  • Reduce stress: Cortisol, a hormone released during stressful situations, can dehydrate your skin and make you look tired. Meditate daily to reduce stress.
  • Sleep: Rest rejuvenates your body. Decreased sleep time may show up on your face. Make sure you get at least 7-9 hours of sleep.
  • Exercise: Physical activity produces endorphins, and feel-good hormones. Regular exercise increases blood flow and nourishes skin cells. Increased blood flow also helps eliminate toxins from the body.
  • Fight drug addiction: If you want to maintain healthy skin, quit smoking, drugs and excessive alcohol consumption. The damage these toxins cause to your organs will have noticeable negative effects on your face and body.

Worst Grooming Mistake #6. Too Experimental

That's the deal, gentlemen. As you age, understand that good beauty habits are essential for a healthy complexion and style. However, trying too many weird and wonderful "quick fix solutions" can cause real damage to your appearance.

Think about it; if you use too many products that aren't right for your skin type or hair type, your appearance can be seriously affected. So before using different products, take the time to research and test them to avoid any potential disasters!

It's also important to note that you don't need every serum under the sun. A basic skincare routine consisting of cleanser, scrub, and toner will suffice.

The same goes for hair care. Using too many products will not only make your hair look greasy and limp, but it may also cause damage that is difficult to repair. Stick to high-quality shampoo and conditioner that suits your personal needs, and avoid styling products that contain harsh chemicals.
